Hotels & Apartments

(Comments? Look at the hotels and apartments threads …)

Last Christmas we walked all around Toledo’s historic quarters (and some of the surroundings) to investigate what hotels would be the most interesting for those of you coming to the wedding from far away. We concentrated on talking to the hotel receptionists, visiting some rooms and trying to cover enough options to please all needs, desires, and pocketbooks.

We recommend that, even if your flight has not been booked yet, you make a decision about your lodging, as the weekend of June 21st will be a busy one in a touristic destination like the beautiful city of Toledo. The weekend will fill up first, so even if you’re not sure of the rest of your travel dates, go ahead and book Friday 6/20, Saturday 6/21, and Sunday 6/22. The wedding is the evening of Sunday the 22nd, so make sure you don’t have to leave too early on Monday morning either as the party will surely go late as most Spanish weddings do.

We will be in Spain from the 24th-31st of March, and would be more than happy to help with arrangements while we’re there (especially for those of you who haven’t studied Spanish since high school and need help with the phone!). In particular, if you’re interested in the apartments, we’d be more than happy to help arrange as these are all owned by individuals (not hotels who speak English).

We have divided the list of lodging options into 3 groups (all the information below is also embedded in the map above!):

OLD TOWN HOTELS
These are the most centrally located places, within the historic district (which is small, very walkable). The Cathedral is in the center of town (naturally), and these hotels fan out from it.

1) Santa Isabel
www.santa-isabel.com/flash/index.html
The best option of all hotels we visited. Very close to the Cathedral and sporting even some parking spots for the audacious drivers in the crowd. Book directly with the hotel as we haven’t been able to find deals online or through travel agents on this one (they quoted 52 Euros a night for a double room). Juanjo’s family from Santander is staying here.

2) Eurico
www.hoteleuricotoledo.com/index.en.html
A few steps from Santa Isabel, a little more expensive but newer (less than 1 year old!) is this small hotel that you should definitely book though an online broker as their receptionist would not give us a decent price quote and what we found through eDreams was much cheaper than anything in their price list. The Lecumberris (friends living in Barcelona) have made a reservation there already “just in case” … 😉 69.30 on eDreams right now.

3) Cisneros
www.hostal-casa-de-cisneros.com
Probably the cutest of them all. Right across from the Cathedral side-entrance this is where we originally thought of hosting Willow’s family before we found a large Villa outside the city. A little on the expensive side but decidedly worth it if you want to get the nice accommodations and attention to detail in your room and service. Quoted us 80 euros for a double and 112 for a triple room per night during the weekend.

4) Las Conchas
www.lasconchas.com
Next door to Juanjo’s “Yaya” (Grandma) is this clean, plain and boringly functional hotel that could do the trick if you want to save and be inside in the old city and close to everything. Definitely book via eDreams as they are showing a 54 euros fare deal (probably for single occupancy) which they didn’t even come close to offering to us (88 is the cheapest they quoted!)

5) Hostal Centro
www.aplinet.com/toledoguia/cl/centrolabrador/index.htm
Last but not least we need to mention the cheap alternative. Very nicely centrally localted (probably the best location of all hotels in town!) but a little run down. Cheap as they come with standard fares of 30 for singles, 50 for doubles and 70 for triples.

APARTMENTS
These are apartments in the old town of Toledo, many near the hotels above, that can sleep anywhere from 2-6 people. They rent by the weekend or week, and may be a great way of feeling at home in Toledo while also saving some money. Remember, Toledo is just 40 minutes from Madrid, and connected by public transit to many places in the vicinity, so you may find it makes sense to stay in Toledo the whole time you’re in Spain.

OTHERS
1) Hostal – Castillo de San Servando (in the picture below)

Juanjo’s uncle went to middle school here years ago, before it became a hostal! Pool and laundry, internet. All rooms have bathrooms and 2 or 3 twin beds. Price is per person. They have 38 rooms (96 beds), so book soon if you know you want this.
Price: Under 30 you get one price, over 30 a little more expensive. Just a bed is 9.75 Euros/12.80 if you’re over 30 (per person). With breakfast a more Euros. Think you can reserve through hostaling international sites.
Contact Information: Try online hostal sites, they should be there. If you’d like to call them (they speak English!) its: +34-925-221-676, they answer they phone from 9-2.

There’s a few other interesting options worth considering outside the city (Caravantes, a Hilton that is way too expensive but you might have points you can use, etc.) If you see anything that is interesting don’t hesitate to email us for our opinion!
